My name is Karla Shotts. I came to teaching as a second career and love every minute of it. I put this site together as an assignment for a Masters class, but also as a start to my never ending quest to learn how to be a better instructor. Information presented here is for those starting out and for those who need a refresher or want to stay up on the latest techniques to keep students engaged while learning.
I teach Middle School Algebra and pre-Algebra and High School Language Arts and Social Issues. My goal is to take these tools and travel overseas into a teaching position. I want to continue to engage with students and embark on an adventure that will put me in the path of those who also want to become immersed in another culture. I also want to help develop global citizens.
Here, you will find resources, sample lesson plans, self reflections and the 12 Touchstones of Good Teaching: A Checklist for Staying Focused Everyday (2013).
